What is ATD Fourth World’s International Centre?

Located in a small hamlet to the north of Paris at the gateway to a regional national park, ATD Fourth World’s International Centre is for ATD members and others from around the world that work to overcome poverty. It is a multicultural and multilingual communal space. More than 20 nationalities from all walks of life come here, united by their commitment to overcoming poverty. It is a venue for international meetings, training, and research for international members of ATD, including ATD Volunteers Corps members, allies, professionals, academics, and those with lived experiences of poverty. All working to build a reflective and supportive community.

Through the international workcamp at the International Centre you will:

  • Learn about ATD Fourth World and its members’ commitment to eradicating poverty.
  • Share in the day-to-day activities, getting to know ATD members who live at the International Centre.
  • Join the “Renovation and Decoration Team” and participate in welcoming members of ATD Fourth World from all over the world, including those with lived experience of poverty.
  • Use your skills, interests, and creativity, carrying out team projects to renovate and decorate the International Centre.

What kind of volunteer work will you do?

As part of the Renovation and Decoration Team, you’ll use your skills (or learn new ones!) to take part in a range of workshops, including indoor and outdoor work, minor repairs of homes and workplaces, gardening and upkeep of green spaces, painting, furniture and machine repairs, etc.

All you need is a love of teamwork, the outdoors, and a DIY spirit.

We are well-equipped with tools for new project ideas, including gardening, metalwork, woodwork, and ceramics.

You may also be asked to support other teams at the International Centre if the need arises. This may include cooking, etc.

International workcamp conditions:

We are open year-round, whenever the time suits you, for a minimum of one week and up to 3 months – flexible dates depending on your availability and the rooms available.
You’ll be housed in communal accommodation (single room with shared bathroom, kitchen and living room). We take care of your food expenses in exchange for a financial contribution of your choosing.

Typical week: work Monday to Friday, 9 am to 4 pm; rest evenings and weekends, with regular social events you can take part in — your suggestions are welcome!

You are responsible for your transport to and from the International Centre. If you’re coming by public transport from Paris, we’ll pick you up at the nearest train station (access from Paris Gare du Nord train station).
